Our family’s history in insurance dates back to 1957, when John E. Zignego began his career with W.A. Lang Agency. Eight years later, he joined Sonnen Insurance Agency in St. Paul, where he had his first opportunity to become an agent. In 1975, John purchased the agency from George Sonnen and renamed it Sonnen-Zignego Agency Inc. Three years later, as the agency’s East Metro client base continued to grow, he moved the business to Lake Elmo. Today, Zignego Agency remains family-owned and operated, with the third generation continuing the tradition of taking care of clients the right way.
Over the years, we’ve continued to grow through relationships, referrals, and the acquisition of other independent agencies that share our commitment to personal service. Those additions have included Lake Elmo Bank Agency, Artie Schaefer Insurance of Stillwater, and Voosen Company of St. Paul in 2024.
Most recently, on September 1, 2026, Zignego Agency acquired MacKenzie Agency, formerly with offices in St. Peter and Blaine. We’re excited to welcome MacKenzie Agency clients to the Zignego family and continue providing the personal service they’re accustomed to, while also giving them access to additional insurance companies, markets, and resources through Zignego Agency.
While our agency has grown considerably over the years, the way we do business hasn’t changed. We’re still a local, family-owned agency where relationships matter. As independent agents, we represent a carefully selected group of strong insurance companies, giving us the ability to shop the marketplace and help our clients find the right combination of coverage, service, and price.
